PRIVACY

Through our semiannual national conferences and our Web site at www.common.org, COMMON provides comprehensive education and knowledge-sharing opportunities for those involved in the application and optimization of information technology (IT) within business environments. The principal goal of COMMON’s Web site is to provide accessible, timely information to COMMON members and the IT industry.

COMMON recognizes and supports the need to protect the privacy rights of our visitors through disclosure of our practices for collection and use of information.

In accordance with COMMON’s Code of Ethics, the information you provide via the COMMON Web site will not be used except in the conduct of COMMON business as determined by COMMON’s Bylaws and Board of Directors. You can review COMMON’s Code of Ethics here.

When you visit the COMMON Web site, we may collect and store information about your visit on an anonymous, aggregate basis. This information may include the time and length of your visit, the pages you look at on our site, and the site you visited just before coming to ours. We may also record the name of your Internet service provider. We use this information only to measure site activity and to develop ideas for improving our site.

In some circumstances – such as when you register to attend a COMMON Conference via our Web site – we will ask you to provide certain personal information. COMMON will not disclose to third parties your credit card information, except to the extent necessary to complete a transaction initiated by you. Your personal contact information will not be disclosed if you specify that we should not share such information with our strategic partners.

Cookies

COMMON uses "cookie" technology in certain areas of our Web site. A cookie is an element of data that a Web site can send to your browser, which may then be stored on your hard drive. There is no personal information about you in a cookie.

Cookies allow us to better understand how people use our site – such as which pages they visit, which links they take, and how long they stay on particular pages. We use that information to help us provide information our visitors want to read. There is no way to tie this information to you individually, since a random number is used, and you don't give your name.

You can refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser. You do not need to have cookies turned on to use the COMMON Web site.

Password Privacy

In order to ensure that members have access to online conference registration and other members-only information on our Web site, COMMON occasionally forwards a member’s COMMON ID and password to them via mail and/or e-mail in an unencrypted, plain text format.

Please keep in mind that your COMMON password may appear in this unprotected format

Third-Party Links

The COMMON Web site contains links to other Web sites. We encourage all of these third-party sites to implement policies and practices that respect the privacy of our users. However, COMMON is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web sites.

Please note that we review our privacy practices from time to time and that such practices are subject to change. We ask that our visitors periodically review this page to ensure familiarity with the most current version of our privacy statement. If you have any questions or comments about COMMON’s privacy practices, you may contact us at webmaster@common.org.
